Defence solicitor Bobby Reid said his client has mental health issues and a "significant" criminal record. He added: "This boy had targeted him, calling him names. Mr Nicol acted in this way in an attempt to ward him off, to stop him from doing this.Sheriff Liam Murphy told Nicol: "This must have been a terrifying experience for that boy. Your record includes similar offences that have resulted in custodial sentences."The sentence was backdated to March 7 as he has been in custody since his arrest.
