UPDATE: Suspect in officer-involved shooting is dead after JSO says he took his own life. Officer shot in neck is in critical condition.

A routine traffic stop turned into a violent Sunday morning for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office after a driver, identified as Tyliko Maduro, fled the scene when he was asked to remove his mask, and then later opened fire on officers.

At around 4:30 a.m., officers showed up at the home on Ridgeview Avenue and knocked on the door several times. Maduro did not answer, and the SWAT team was called in. After negotiation attempts, Maduro reportedly opened fire later Sunday morning officers, seriously injuring one. The 25-year-old officer who was shot in the neck remained in critical condition Sunday afternoon. His name has not been released.
