Mila Kunis doesn't think she and husband Ashton Kutcher's characters should be together on That '90s Show: 'You know what, I called BS. I was like, ‘My character would be with Fez.’ I think that I ended up with Wilmer [Valderrama]’s character.'
Mila Kunis argues that Jackie Burkhart shouldn't be with Michael Kelso, playfully questioning her storyline in That '90s Show. The upcoming That '70s Show spinoff will begin in the summer of 1995 and center around Leia Forman as she spends the summer with her grandparents — Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith returning to their respective roles of Kitty and Red Forman — in Wisconsin.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Kunis spoke recently about what viewers should expect from That '90s Show when it debuts on Netflix, saying those who loved the original will particularly enjoy the inciting incident of the series. Still, she had some jokes about whether the age of her character's daughter makes sense. Now, Kunis has shared some of her other thoughts about Jackie's storyline.
My [real-life] husband [Kutcher] and I are together in it, which is weird ’cause we shouldn’t have been. You know what, I called BS. I was like, ‘My character would be with Fez.’ I think that I ended up with Wilmer’s character. And I was like, ‘Why are you and I together?’ And also, he was married when ’70’s ended to Shannon Elizabeth’s character, I think. And now we’re like, 20 years—no, 16 years later, whatever it is, and now we’re married with a kid.
Why Kelso & Jackie Are Together In That '90s Show Kunis correctly notes that Fez and Jackie are a couple by the end of That '70s Show. In the case of Kelso, it's hinted that he gets back together with Brooke since she's the mother of his daughter. It seems That '90s Show does away with this or otherwise discounts it, based on what Kunis shares. One possible reason is convenience.
Another thing to consider is that some viewers felt the Fez and Jackie dynamic worked better with them as friends, considering how he pined over her despite the fact that she mostly showed no interest. Away from those specific relationship questions, Kunis' teasing remarks get at the difficulty of spinoff sequels like That '90s Show. It can be incredibly inorganic to bring almost all the same characters back in a satisfying way.
