The Caps’ shallow depth at left back will be an issue until the team addresses it in the transfer market.

There was a lot of ‘take’ last Saturday at B.C. Place, but not much ‘give’ as the Vancouver Whitecaps dropped their Major League Soccer season- and home-opener.

But Vancouver coach Marc Dos Santos was quick to laud Cornelius for his effort after the game, and again this week after training. Newcomer Lass Bangoura showed his skills and speed, but was also guilty of failing to track back on some plays, including the Loons’ second goal, where left back Francisco Calvo pounced on a heavy touch from Bangoura at midfield, igniting a counterattack and continued his run into the box to score.

“Sometimes you play fullbacks who stay home … and you don’t want your wingers to do more work than is necessary. But in some parts of the game Saturday it was, and we could have done a better job.”
