Federal grant funds helped purchase new equipment for an aquatic therapy program and a new auto mechanics course in hybrid vehicles at Ivy Tech’s Lake County campuses.
Physical therapy assistant program students at the Crown Point campus can explore the benefits of aquatic therapy with the purchase of a 500-gallon Hydroworx Rise two-chambered pool. Officials said it provides versatile water heights and temperatures and also includes an underwater seat and treadmill and water jets that provide resistance to movement.
Students will use the 2019 car to learn hybrid safety and familiarize themselves with its operating systems. “Hybrid safety is important for students,” said program chairman Javier Rivera. “High-voltage batteries can store voltages between 200 and 600, and that requires safety training and specialized equipment such as insulated gloves and tools to work on and around connections on the battery and controls for the hybrid electric vehicle.
