Police are investigating how the dog managed to leave the third-floor balcony in Rome.

The woman is understood to have been walking down the street when the dog landed directly in front of her. Eyewitnesses say the woman was so shocked that she fell and hit her head. The mother-to-be, 28, is now in a serious condition in hospital, according to Italian media.
Patrizia La Marca, 53, was taking care of the animal in the Italian town of Ventimiglia when it turned on her. Neighbours heard her shouting for help and first responders found her covered in blood with horrific bites on her head, arms, chest and shoulders.
