“For the most part, what we’re feeling is pretty positive about things. It’s great to be back at it.”“We’re open from 11 until 9 Tuesday through Saturday,” said Geddes. “I’m here for all of it. Then Sundays and Mondays I work to get ready for the week because there’s no other way possible.”
“I’ve interviewed people and hired them and I’ve never seen them again,” said Geddes, noting ghosting has become quite an issue.Geddes said they’ve had people accept jobs and on their first shift, they don’t show up. When he opened Cocoa Pesto’s doors on May 12, 2022, he opted to take a phased approach. Within the first six months, he managed to open the food shoppe aspect. People can stop by and pick up a quick meal or snack to go.
“It’s kind of frustrating when you basically have the equipment and you have the space and everything is in place and you’re sitting there waiting because there’s no point in building something when you can’t staff it,” he said.Takeout has become a popular option for patrons as seating is limited in the existing restaurant.Leanne Myles, a Hants County-based mortgage broker, is a regular diner, noting she usually eats there twice a week. The pan-fried haddock is her go-to meal.
Geddes said they seem to have an even mix of clientele — local residents and people travelling in to the area to attend events or attractions. As the restaurant is conveniently located near Highway 101 and mere minutes from Ski Martock, he anticipates there will be an uptick in out-of-town visitors this winter.
