AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan is isolating for the next seven days after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Friday morning., told 3AW that he woke up with a sore throat on Friday morning and tested positive to COVID-19.“It’s rolling through, and it’s my turn,” McLachlan said.McLachlan admitted he felt some apprehension before making the announcement that he was leaving the AFL, but he said he felt it was the right decision, and he felt good about it now.
He intends to take a break when he finishes up what remains a busy agenda for him to complete in the time he has left at the AFL, with the broadcast deal and collective bargaining agreements for the men’s game and AFLW to be completed as well as a new funding model for the clubs.With attention turning to who might replace him McLachlan said he knew there would be at least one internal female candidate for the CEO job and there was no doubt a female could replace him.
