Instead of going out during the festive season, it might be time to catch up on some well-deserved rest. Janice Phiri gives us the lowdown on all the Christmas movies and series to look out for this holiday
The festive season is well on its way, and while December is considered a month of debauchery with too many braais to count and more parties than your body is equipped to handle, it is also the perfect time to settle into some comfortable clothes, have lazy swimming days, and of course, watch some corny and wholesome festive movies and series.
Funny guys Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds feature in this hilarious Christmas movie and Reynolds was clearly taking notes from Ferrell, who has already given us the classic festive film Elf. This time, through a modern-day musical called Spirited, this movie is inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The story follows the classic tale of the anti-Christmas villain Ebenezer Scrooge. The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future get a makeover in this hilarious comedy that was available from November 18 on Netflix.Horror and Christmas may seem like a weird combination, but Violent Night is for the alternative Christmas movie lover, so it’s perfect.
Featuring actors such as Thando Thabethe and Rami Chuene, the romantic comedy will follow a baby shower with some hilarious situations that ensue whenever the family comes together. Kids always make everything better and brighter, but they can also be rather mischievous and unwavering in their festive demands. All I Want for Christmas follows a young girl whose parents have separated and just can't seem to have a civil moment with one another.
