The former spokesperson of the now disbanded uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association announced on Friday morning that he won't be appealing his recent expulsion from the party. Instead, he would be formally severing all ties with the ANC.

In 1983, Niehaus was sentenced to 15 years in jail by the apartheid government after being convicted of high treason.A fraud scandal in 2009, which involved him forging signatures while working for the Gauteng provincial government, led to him stepping down from the public space.
