The race for the open seat on the L.A. County Board of Supervisors is set for a November showdown between two candidates, state Sen. Bob Hertzberg and West Hollywood City Councilmember Lindsey Horv…

June primary now certified

At stake are issues concerning homelessness, public health including COVID-19, the county sheriff’s and fire departments, jails, juvenile detention, parks, the environment, and LA Metro rail, bus and highway projects. Hertzberg touts his experience in Sacramento as Speaker of the State Assembly in 2000 and 2001 and later as an entrepreneur before retuning to the legislature in 2014 where he rose to Senate Majority Leader.

Horvath’s campaign website rarely mentions she’s from West Hollywood, saying in the biography section she is “an effective local leader.” The campaign organization has an Encino address. Her campaign team responded to a query about her rarely mentioned city council service in West Hollywood by noting that her ballot designation is: Councilmember/Business Owner.

Raphael Sonenshein, director of the Pat Brown Institute For Public Affairs at Cal State Los Angeles said on Wednesday, “While they are both in the Democratic framework, in L.A. politics they are different. She would be more on the progressive side, he would be more on the centrist side.”
