Earlier this week the secretary general confirmed that the party’s national disciplinary committee had found the former president guilty of misconduct and had resolved to boot him out of the organisation.
JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said that while former President Jacob Zuma was well within his right to challenge his expulsion, the party considers the matter closed.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ANC’s national executive committee meeting in Boksburg on Thursday, Mbalula told the media that no one in the NEC would object or reject the findings against Zuma. Earlier this week, the secretary-general confirmed that the party’s national disciplinary committee had found the former president guilty of misconduct and had"We have moved from suspension to expulsion, and we have followed every step, in terms of our constitution. If he wants to challenge that, he wants to appeal, it is within his right, but he is not our member and we are not repeating ourselves about it, it's done. He can lead what he leads at the present moment," said Mbalula.
He also weighed in on the ANC’s battle to overturn a previous high court judgment on Zuma and his political party uMkhonto weSizwe’s use of the symbols, logo and name of its former liberation army. "It's our trademark, we will challenge it to the end, we are in court appealing that decision, the erroneous decision of that judge, who even ran away from reading the judgment and gave it to the clerk to read," said Mbalula.
