A non-profit society in Sooke is now inching closer to its first broadcast over the airwaves after receiving a grant to create a community radio station.
After spending nearly 20 years in broadcasting, telling stories to audiences across the country, Elrington was approached by a few friends back in April with a vision to create a community radio station.
“The new radio station will amplify the voices of our community and provide a platform for connection, creativity, and local storytelling, strengthening the bonds that make Sooke such a special place to live,” said the district in a statement. When it comes to programming, Elrington says it’s entirely up to the community.
Age and experience are not an issue for those wanting to volunteer. Elrington hopes to create a ‘studio in a suitcase,’ which will provide content creators with the tools needed to tell the stories of Sooke.
