'It feels great to be back': Cale Makar hosts Stanley Cup meet-and-greet at Crowchild Twin Arena yyc
The Calgary native played minor league hockey in Calgary, suiting up for the Northwest Calgary Athletic Association under-16 AAA Stampeders and the Calgary Flames U18 AAA before joining the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
“It still has not completely sunk in for me to be honest,” said the defenceman of his championship success. “It’s a dream come true, and I am excited to share this with my fans here in Calgary.” Many others showed similar excitement throughout the day, as kids stood in shock when standing in front of the star.
Makar explained it was nice to bring the Cup back to Calgary to give back to his fans and the community. And he had some advice for the young kids who are now playing in the arena he once skated on. The NHLer becomes a free agent in 2027 after signing a six-year, $54-million deal with the Avalanche last summer. So unfortunately for those kids, Makar will likely not be available to the Flames anytime soon.Article content
