Israel has fired strikes at thousands of targets in Gaza, including the upscale Rimal neighborhood in Gaza City where a number of senior Hamas leaders live, Israel Defense Force officials said Tuesday.
Israeli air force fighters are striking terrorist headquarters and other infrastructure. The Israeli navy also killed dozens of Hamas fighters who launched an assault at Israel’s Zikim Beach near the border with the Gaza Strip, officials said.
“Hamas terrorists will find no shelter in Gaza. We will find them wherever they are,” Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesman, said Tuesday. U.S. and Israeli military officials said they remain in close contact. Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke by phone with his Israeli counterpart, Lt. Gen. Herzl Halevi.
“We are working with the U.S. in complete operational cooperation. This cooperation is expressed operationally and in intelligence,” Adm. Hagari said. “Americans speak through actions — the U.S. forces that have arrived at the area of the Mediterranean Sea are powerful forces. They come with an aircraft carrier carrying tens of aircraft vessels with thousands of missiles and munitions.”
