Gaza received its first deliveries of international humanitarian aid since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, and a mother and daughter from Illinois were freed by Hamas.
Family members of the two Americans released Friday by Hamas are counting the days until they are back in the U.S. Uri Raanan, the father of Natalie Raanan, who along with her mother Judith was held hostage for about two weeks, said he hopes they can celebrate his daughter’s Oct. 24 birthday together at his home outside Chicago. “Our loved ones appear to be in good health,” he said. “But there is a long road ahead to healing.” The women, who have U.S.
citizenship, were visiting family at an Israeli kibbutz when Hamas attacked on Oct. 7. The mother and daughter, ages 59 and 17, respectively, were the first to be released of the more than 200 hostages taken by militants. Uri Raanan told reporters on Friday that he spoke to President Biden, who also spoke to the two freed Americans telling them the U.S. government would support them in their recovery.
