Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday it carried out artillery strikes in Syria after a number of mortars were launched toward northern Israel as fighting continued in the southern part of the country in the wake of Saturday's surprise attack by Hamas.
Some of the mortars crossed into Israeli territory and fell in an open area, the IDF said. The mortars were launched by Iran-backed militias from near the Golan Heights, according to a Syrian security official. The United Arab Emirates has warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime not to intervene in the ongoing conflict or allow attacks on Israel.
