A former British Army tank commander said Israel faces the threat of a ‘devastating’ underground chemical weapons attack by Hamasface an “unimaginable hell” of booby traps and suicide bombers while fighting in the dark, a former British Army tank commander and chemical weapons expert has warned.Israeli President Isaac Herzog has claimed Hamas militants who carried out the 7 October attack were carrying instructions for how to make cyanide bombs.
He added: “The battle going on underground is probably more dreadful, more dangerous and more horrific than what’s actually going on above ground.” IDF troops were likely to be equipped with specialist breathing equipment like gas masks to allow them to fight underground in tunnels in brutal combat similar to that seen by US troops in Vietnam against the Vietcong, he said.
“But there’s been a three week air campaign which has been precisely targeted to destroy some of Hamas’s defences so the preparations they made, some will have been destroyed from the air. The IDF’s first major assault into Gaza last week saw tanks capable of carrying special forces, infantry and armoured engineering units attack the strip.
