Dashan is heading to The Mack in Charlottetown with special guests for performances on March 24 and March 25. ContributedCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — P.E.I.'s Island Jazz is presenting a one-of-a-kind evening featuring comedy, music and poetry with Dashan, the most famous foreigner in China.Dashan, also known as Mark Rowswell, has been a cultural ambassador and media personality in China for over 30 years.
Born and raised in Canada, he learned Mandarin Chinese first at the University of Toronto and later at Peking University in Beijing. While in Beijing, he became interested in xiangsheng, a form of traditional comedic dialogue in China.For the show, Dashan will be joined on stage by his brother Dan Rowswell and the Island Jazz Quartet, performing music from Dan's upcoming project Old Dan's Records.
He has also been inducted into the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honour, and served as Canada's team attaché during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and Canada's commissioner general for Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
