Edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. believes he must still earn his spot on the Texans roster.
Houston Texans draft linebacker Will Anderson Jr. warms up during rookie camp Friday, May 12, 2023, at NRG in Houston.Rookie minicamp makes dreams become a reality for many. It’s the first time players can step on a field as professional football players.
Since leaving his family in Hampton, Ga., and arriving in Houston, he hasn’t gone out or done much but study his playbook and practice.Exploring the city will come later. For now, Anderson has been focused on learning the playbook and introducing himself to his teammates. A lot of eyes will be on Anderson this season. Besides the 12th overall pick, the Texans dealt their original second-round pick, a future first-round of pick and a future-third round pick just to get him. And even though the Texans still have first-, second- and third-round picks in 2024, this year's draft-day deal drew criticism in some national media corners because of the compensation the Texans gave up.“One, just going to Alabama, I experienced that at such an early age,” Anderson said.
