The SA Police Service is officially looking for convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester (35). This means the police also suspect that Bester did not die in a fire last year in his cell in the prison where he was serving a life sentence
South Africa was abuzz this week after reports that Bester, dubbed the Facebook rapist, was alive. If he is, his would be one of the country’s strangest prison escapes.
Bester was moved to a different single cell on the day of the fire and just before it caught alight, CCTV footage showed two people leaving the premises; and A man with a ponytail, who many suspect is Bester, was photographed standing at a Woolworths checkout point. A young woman, believed to be Magudumana’s daughter, stood next to him.
The revelations that Bester was alive prompted former Constitutional Court Judge Edwin Cameron to say he was “deeply concerned” about the case.
