Is Mngqithi More Suitable As An Assistant At Downs?
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - SEPTEMBER 03: Manqoba Mngqithi, head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns during the Betway Premiership Season Launch at The Galleria on September 03, 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Former Sundowns midfielder Chancey Gondwe believes that Mngqithi can do well as a head coach but needs support from the entire technical team and the club. Speaking to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview, the Malawian-based Gondwe noted that Mngqithi has previously done well as a head coach at Golden Arrows and can do the same at Sundowns provided he is well supported.
"I think he hasn't been given the chance long enough to prove himself. They have to give him that chance like any other coach. I know and I believe he can do it. He is also good as a head coach. All he needs is time to prove that. He is fit to be a head coach at Sundowns," Gondwe believes.
Sundowns will start the defense of their league title, which they have won seven times in a row, on 17th September against cross-town rivals SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby.
