It sounds like Browns Hall of Fame left tackle Joe Thomas is preparing to coach with the Ravens next year – but not the Ravens in Baltimore.

His introduction to the European League of Football has a Cleveland connection. Patrick Esume, the league’s commissioner, worked with the Browns as a coaching fellow in 2007, Thomas’ rookie year. Esume also co-hosts the, which Thomas appeared on, and he told Esume his dream would be to coach football in Europe some day.

Esume put Thomas in touch with Ravens GM Sebastian Stolz and he got a chance to meet head coach John Shoop. “Hey, I have no expectations but if there’s any possible place for me on this team, I would love an opportunity to come out and help coach the team,” Thomas said he told Shoop, “and so we’re trying to put the pieces together so I can come out next year.”

Thomas has dabbled in coaching before, unofficially at least, visiting with the Browns and working with their offensive line. NFL coaching is often prohibitive for former players, especially of Thomas’ status, due to the long hours.
