At the Oval, league champions Larne took the lead in the ninth minute when Chris Gallagher won a tackle in midfield and played the ball to Andy Ryan in the right-hand channel. The Scottish striker ran at Paddy McClean before cutting inside and firing a low shot beyond Aaron McCarey. Larne came close to regaining the lead when Sean Graham cut inside onto his left foot and his powerful drive was parried away by McCarey.
It was a different story after half-time as Linfield turned the game on its head thanks to the introduction of Matthew Fitzpatrick. Cliftonville nearly levelled the game instantly when Rory Hale fired narrowly wide before Jonny Tuffey made a superb point-blank save to stop Ben Wilson’s header from close range.
Carrick Rangers defeated Newry City 3-1 to consign the hosts to bottom spot in the Irish Premiership. Seven minutes later and the visitors were ahead for the first time. Gibson was brought down by Newry goalkeeper Conor Mitchell inside the area, with Cushley stepping up and making no mistake from the spot.
Midfielder Fraser Taylor crossed to the back post where Daithi McCallion headed back across the six-yard box and McCurry was on hand to smash home from close range for his first goal of the season.
