One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to get fit and healthy, however going to a gym for the first time can be daunting. With this in mind, one regular gym user has issued some advice for anyone in Ireland embarking on a new fitness journey.
As the New Year kicks off, many people across Ireland will set ambitious goals to try and improve their lifestyle.
Going to a gym for the first time can be a daunting experience for a number of reasons, whether it be fearing what others will think of your abilities, or not knowing how to use the equipment.With this in mind, one regular gym user has issued some advice for anyone in Ireland embarking on a new fitness journey.
“2. Take your time to figure out machines, weights, cardio equipment, even the changing room and showers. If you don't know, ask someone at the desk. They are usually bored out of their mind so are happy to help and show off their knowledge. It builds rapport and at least it is one friendly face when you come into the gym.
“4. The regulars will spot a new person but they won't pay a blind bit of notice to what you do. They are too occupied with themselves. Unless you are doing something to cause a scene you will only get the occasional glance. There is a lot of down time in between sets and exercises so people look around, eyes wander, but most usually pick up their phone and ignore what's going on around them.
