They will not be ‘trying to lose’ by 21 points or more in their final Rugby World Cup Pool B match against Scotland, says Ireland coach Mike Catt.
Ireland beat the Springboks 13-8 in thier huge Pool B clash on 23 September. All Ireland needs from their final Pool match against Scotland is one point to top the Pool.
All three teams are still in the hunt for a knockout spot, with the Springboks having completed their four Pool B matches and Ireland and Scotland meeting in a Paris showdown on Saturday. Scotland could also go through with South Africa by winning by eight points or more on Saturday and depriving the top-ranked Irish a bonus point.
Catt said Ireland would be looking to improve even on their performance against the Springboks as they chase a 17th straight Test win.
