Iowa has now won the last six games in Ames.
The Hawkeyes still struggled against a stacked Iowa State run defense. Outside of a 59-yard run by, the Hawkeyes largely were contained and couldn’t get much push off the line of scrimmage.
Iowa used heavy three-tight end packages and struggled to combat penetration. The Hawkeyes ran for 114 yards on 27 carries , which doesn’t sound terrible. But when Iowa needed to bulldoze for a first down, like on third-and-1 at the 34 inside of two minutes remaining, it lost. Other than Patterson’s burst, the performance was reminiscent of what has taken place over the last two seasons., who had 28 yards on 15 carries.
