Michael Doyle, 32, was given an eight-year term for vehicular homicide and five years behind bars for endangering the welfare of a child after his conviction, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
, who was in a crosswalk near Black Horse Pike and English Creek Avenue in Egg Harbor Township, prosecutors said. Doyle’s vehicle then crashed into a van.Toxicology tests revealed Doyle was under the influence of fentanyl, morphine, alprazolam, methadone, codeine and THC when the crash happened, according to prosecutors.
In announcing the sentence, authorities pointed to a spike in fatal crashes and the more than 50% increase in accidents involving opioid impairment from 2020 to 2021 in Atlantic County.
