Canadore College President says, \u0022It was not driven by our students... they asked for volunteers to stay in that tent overnight.\u0022

“The tent on campus was set-up by a group who decided to make a statement,” Burton said. “It was not driven by our students and they set up their tent, they asked for volunteers to stay in that tent overnight, if you look inside there was no living accommodations. The next day they left.”The student housing situation at Canadore garnered province-wide attention.

They held a demonstration outside the Commerce Court Campus asking that their concerns be heard and a resolution be met. Manpreet Kaur, a member of Montreal Youth Students Organization or MYSO, confirmed later that day the college agreed to their points. Text messages sent to Kaur were not returned by deadline. Burton said Canadore isn’t looking to reduce the number of international students they accept.
