Statewide fires have claimed nearly 47 thousand acres with approximately 133 fires burning in Interior Alaska since Tuesday, August 1.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - While fire activity cooled down during the weekend, forecasts predict another surge of fires as winds work their way into the interior and temperatures continue to spike.
Much of the effort in the Anderson Complex has been focused around structures on the Teklanika River.Residents on the Teklanika River and in the Clear Sky Homestead and Rose Hip Creek, are in a “GO” evacuation status with Anderson and Kobe Road in a “SET” status. “Well after this weekend where we had kind of a cooler, maybe a little damper weather, we’ve been able to reset things. We’re heading into another warm spell, so the fires that are already on the ground, we do anticipate that they will grow. Unfortunately, they’re predicting winds, gusts of up to 20 miles per hour which will certainly bring things to life again,” said Beth Ipsen, Public Affairs BLM Alaska Fire Service.
In an effort to be better suited for the incoming activity, the BLM is bringing in new resources and regrouping.
