AWS will gain great AI capabilities while Intel gets to claw back some market share from NVIDIA.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said this was an expansion of the relationship the pair have had for a long time.
The exec says this move is in-line with Intel’s “better together” strategy and speaks to the increased demand for Intel Foundry services. This will also help to shore up the United States’ push to lessen its reliance on Asia for semiconductors. “By co-developing next-generation AI fabric chips on Intel 18A, we continue our long-standing collaboration, dating back to 2006 when we launched the first Amazon EC2 instance featuring their chips. Our continued collaboration allows us to empower our joint customers with the ability to run any workload and unlock new AI capabilities,” Matt Garman, chief executive officer at AWS said in a statement.
