Insurers will cover your coronavirus test, but the diagnostic has to be available first
Health insurers say the COVID-19 testing, “as prescribed by health practitioners,” will be covered. Insurers began to make individual announcements Thursday afternoon and are expected to issue more on Friday and in the coming days, sources close to these companies said.
"During this time of heightened concern, Cigna's role is clear,” Cigna president and CEO David Cordani said Thursday. “We will do everything we can to help contain this virus, remove barriers to testing and treatment, especially for seniors and people who are chronically ill, and give peace of mind to those we serve."
“The Trump Administration is utilizing a whole-of-America approach, including working with our private partners, so that our entire healthcare system and our communities are activated and coordinated in our efforts to protect the American people,” said Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which said it is working with health insurers to eliminate hurdles to diagnostic testing.
