Three inspirational South Ribble residents have set up a charity to provide free mental health care for over 16s.Paula Slater, Sandra Connolly and Craig Bushell have launched The South Ribble Wellbeing Trust after becoming worried about the large numbers of people who are in crisis.
“I had a very troubled childhood, and those troubles followed me into adulthood. When I had my own children I was determined to be the person who ended the cycle of childhood abuse, and so that’s what I did through the help of therapy and education.”“In the past 10 years I suffered awful tragedies,” said Paula. “First my daughter Katy died from a brain tumour when she was 10 years old. Then my mother took her own life eight weeks later, on Mother’s Day.
“From one human being to another, I feel that we need to pull together to help each other. It shouldn’t just be left to the NHS and not everyone can afford to go private, so this is how we are able to help. “I really do want to help others, and there are so many people suffering with their mental health who feel that they are alone, with nowhere to turn.
“Those people, and their families, really reach into your heart and make you want to do something, anything, to help.”
