The feelings experienced by fictosexuals may be genuine but seeking fictional relationships could also be a coping strategy for dealing with fear of rejection. “Fictional characters are not going to hurt you. For a lot of people that may choose a fictional relationship, they might perhaps fear rejection or the complexities of human relationships,” says Ammanda Major, a Relate therapist.
