NHS union leaders fear a campaign from hardliners rejecting a Government pay offer to stop strikes could scupper the deal for other nurses, paramedics and midwives, theipaper understands

Three of the main health care unions – The Royal College of Nursing , Unison and GMB – have recommended their members vote for the deal when voting opens from next week, with Unite saying it was not good enough.

There are also concerns that the 5 per cent pay offer would be removed from the table and sent to the NHS Pay Review Body to consider, leading to delays in workers receiving any pay rise. Last month, the Department for Health recommended a 3.5 per cent pay award for NHS staff in its submission to the independent pay review body, which one GMB union leader branded “a disgrace”.
