Nike has pinned its future on digital growth, but its top tech executive is facing huge hurdles, a talent drain, and morale that one insider described as 'absolutely in the tank'

At an investor day this year, Kohl's said its digital business had a 13% compound annual growth rate over the past five years. It now has 18 million active app users. Like Nike, it's working to develop more-personalized digital messaging and provide hyperlocal product assortments in stores. "We just have to simplify," he said."And so there's going to be a lot more standardization. And I know sometimes you all might not be thrilled about standardization, but we have to do it. We have to do it for ourselves, for the company."
"He's making us worldwide," a current technology worker said."We need to be worldwide. We can't have people 24/7 sleeping at WHQ."A search of LinkedIn profiles showed that at least six vice presidents who worked in technology at Nike had left in the past 18 months. And that's just at the executive level.
One current technology worker also wondered whether Lavu, who's skilled in the building blocks of e-commerce, could steer Nike into the Web3 future, which would require a different set of skills.
