Birch, Cheshunt, reviewed
We were cool once. Still cool, actually, it's just that bars in town - well, they're full of 'kids' these days aren't they? And where we live, well, we've got everything we need on the doorstep - although these days we don't get much further than Morrisons and the deli.
Birch is based in the north London suburb of Cheshunt, and you can join as a member or stay as a guest. It's cool - but in relaxed, unpretentious way. There's a healthy mix of families and proper grown ups, younger and older - seeking downtime on this sunny weekend. Here, the chilled vibe continues, with drinking, chatting, and listening to the tunes by the pool - and swimming of course. Wander the surrounding woods and you'll find pigs, chickens and lambs grazing, and little groves and copses for the kids to explore.
Rooms are airy with high ceilings, overlooking greenery, perfect for a good night's sleep after a few drinks and a catch up. While the atmosphere is sociable, it's not noisy at night. Breakfast - I went for kippers - was a tonic.
