Adam Johnson died after a collision in a game between Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers
A coroner has offered her “sincere condolences” to the family and friends of Nottingham Panthers ice hockey player Adam Johnson, who died after sustaining a serious injury during a match watched by thousands. Sheffield Coroner Tanyka Rawden opened the inquest into Johnson's death.
He was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead. On Friday , Mrs Rawden opened and adjourned an inquest into Johnson’s death at Sheffield’s Medico-Legal Centre.It heard that on October 28, Johnson was playing ice hockey for the Nottingham Panthers at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield. Sheffield coroner Tanyka Rawden opened the inquest saying that initial investigations had found that: “Mr Johnson was seriously injured.
It also heard heard personal details of Adam Johnson's date of birth and basic details of his age at the time of his tragic death. Mrs Rawden said he was known Johnson was 29 years old when he died. He was born in Grant Rapids, Minnesota on June 22, 1994.
