Inospace launches e-commerce fulfilment warehouse in Cape Town

Company takes delivery of and stores inventory, processes orders and ships returns on behalf of customers

Inospace, SA’s largest owner and operator of last-mile logistics parks, has converted one of its traditional warehouse properties in Cape Town into an e-commerce fulfilment and outsourced warehouse facility to meet growing demand.

Cape Town Seeks Solutions as Taxi Strike Cripples CityWestern Cape Premier Alan Winde has called on mini-bus taxi leaders affiliated with the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) who are behind the provincial strike, to return to the table and resolve long-standing issues that have confronted the industry. "We recognise the important role the mini-bus taxi sector plays in the public transport industry and economy. But calling a strike, that has been accompanied by violence, is not the answer to resolving the grievances of operators and drivers. This will be a blow to our shared economic growth and will impact the poor the hardest," Winde said. Since the beginning of 2023, over 6,000 taxis have been impounded. This comes after the City's new by-law that gives it power to impound vehicles rather than fining drivers for offences such as overloading, lack of registration plates, and not having valid licensing documents. Violence broke out after an impunding operation by officers prompted taxi operators to block Cape Town streets, preventing traffic from exiting parts of the central business district. As a result, thousands of commuters were left stranded at taxi pickup points across the city. There were chaotic scenes as people forced their way into buses in a desperate attempt to get home, while others who lived along railway routes rushed to catch a train out of the city, GroundUp reported. Further, three Golden Arrow buses were set alight in the townships of Nyanga and Philippi. Mandla Hermanus, the provincial chairperson for Santaco Western Cape, warned that the strike action would continue for a week.
