Industry colleagues remember 'friend and mentor' Kevin Savage
"The reason I have had a 38-year radio career is because of Kevin Savage," radio and television presenter Darren Scott said in a lengthy tribute on Facebook.
Scott, who hosts the Afternoon Drive Show on 93.8 Mix FM, goes on to share that after sending Savage multiple letters and KFC vouchers when he was in school, Savage called him to thank him for the vouchers and invite him to sit in on his show on Capital Radio 604. "That was the start of a mentorship that would eventually give me the career that I have lived for nearly 4 decades!"
"I would go on to produce Kevin's show, become his regular stand-in, and eventually emulate my mentor by doing the Drive and The Breakfast Show on Capital," Scott continued."We would go on to work together at 5FM and Hot FM, but through it all, he remained my friend and mentor." The media personality concluded,"I owe everything I have achieved in radio to this man. Radio in this country owes him a debt of gratitude. He was most certainly one of the greats."
