Chief Judge Derek Redman on Wednesday announced the court’s new Indigenous Justice Strategy. Designed in consultation with First Nations and Métis groups as well as Indigenous judges and lawyers, the strategy is intended to better reflect Alberta’s history and mend the often strained relationship between the justice system and Indigenous people.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary SUN, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
Discussions with Indigenous communities began two years ago, while other parts of the strategy drew on reports including those generated by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2015 and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in 2019.
