The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services has warned people to steer clear of the area where an explosion happened in the Johannesburg CBD, over fears that a secondary one could happen. | Mizzyb1

City of Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda says any of the water, gas and electricity pipes"congesting" the City's underground infrastructure may have caused the explosion on Wednesday afternoon.People have been warned to steer clear of the area where the explosion happened due to fears of a secondary explosion.

The explosion, which happened on Wednesday afternoon, left one person dead and 48 others injured. Two of the injured are said to be in critical condition.He said the deceased's body was discovered on Thursday morning.Joburg explosion: One person found dead under taxi rubble, 48 others injured and 37 vehicles damagedWe discovered the body while removing the [damaged] vehicles. It looks like he was trapped under the rubble of a taxi.

He said there was currently a voluntary evacuation of people living in the buildings near where the explosion occurred.
