SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio teacher has been arrested in connection with “inappropriate text messages” sent to a high school student, according to the Cibolo Police Department.
The 16-year-old Steele High School student reported receiving the texts from a former teacher, Thomas Rivera, Cibolo police said. Rivera, 41, formerly taught at both Steele and Clemens high schools in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. He now teaches in San Antonio Independent School District.
Cibolo police arrested Rivera at Lanier High School on the West Side “without incident” and transported him to Guadalupe County Jail, according to a statement from the police department.Rivera has been charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony, according to the statement.
Cibolo police are investigating whether Rivera had inappropriate communications with other students. They’re asking parents of current and former students who “interacted with Rivera” to speak with their children.
