Not only has Alana Short blossomed into an AUS all-star, earning a first-team nod last season and a second-team selection the year before, but the Barrie, Ont., product is also a four-time Academic All-Canadian.

Memorial University’s Alana Short is one of the top female basketball players in Atlantic University Sport conference. In her fourth year as a Sea-Hawk, the 22-year-old is enjoying her finest year with the program. - Memorial University photo/Udantha ChandraratneST. JOHN'S, N.L. — When Alana Short first arrived at Memorial University, she set some goals for herself.

In that first year, she came off the bench — also a first — but kept working to gain her coach’s trust and her role expanded little by little. Alana Short is the second-highest scorer in the AUS this season with 21.2 points per game. - Memorial University photo/Udantha Chandraratne Through 10 games this season, Short is stuffing the stat sheet for the Sea-Hawks. She averages 21.2 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per contest and 1.7 assists per game.

“Something has really focused on is her defence, and this season, she has really shown her maturity and development on that side of the ball, guarding most teams' best players each game,” said English. That chemistry will be important as the team hits the home stretch before the playoffs start. The grind is starting, something Short is looking forward to seeing.
