In pictures: Manchester's historic Little Italy parade fills the streets with colour
returned to the streets of Manchester, celebrating the culture and traditions of Italian families and their contributions to the city.
It was led by men from the Italian community who carrying a statue of the Madonna adorned with white lilies. Women walked in Italian dress while children who have recently taken their First Holy Communion also took part.This year St Chad's from Cheetham Hill joined the parade during its 250th anniversary, while and St Anne's of Ancoats also took part as part of their celebrations for the church's 135th anniversary.
She said:"When the Italian immigrants came to this country many settled in Ancoats. They brought their culture, their food, their music, and they brought their religion. Ancoats was the heart of Little Italy - Blossom Street, Jersey Street, all around there, and of course St Michael's Church.
