Amazon plans two eco-friendly, 22-story towers with parks, day care and bike path
By Patricia Sullivan Patricia Sullivan Reporter covering government, politics and other regional issues in Arlington County and Alexandria Email Bio Follow May 16 at 3:38 PM Amazon submitted preliminary plans Wednesday for its new headquarters in Arlington County, announcing it will build 2.1 million square feet in a pair of 22-story office towers that meet high energy-efficient and environmental standards and include a public plaza and storage for 200 bicycles.
Some 50,000 square feet of retail space is planned, to include a day-care center serving employees and area residents. Just over an acre of open space will feature a dog park and a bicycle path that connects with existing bike paths. The headquarters site, now home to vacant warehouses between 13th Street South and 15th Street South along Eads Street, was originally planned as a residential-retail project called Metropolitan Park.
