Kim Ng, the first woman to serve as general manager of a Major League Baseball team, will not return to that role with the Miami Marlins next year, the team announced Monday morning. In a statement, the Marlins said they offered to pick up Ng's mutual contract option for next season, but she declined it. 'We thank Kim for her contributions during her time with our organization and wish her and her family well,' the Marlins wrote in that statement.
Ng told the Athletic on Monday that she left the team because she and Sherman 'were not completely aligned' in their visions for the future of the baseball operations department. Now Sherman will have to rebuild that department from the top. The Marlins join the Boston Red Sox as teams looking for a head of baseball operations this offseason, though others could still join them.
