Illinois is among dozens of states alleging that Facebook and Instagram harm the health of children — and the company knows it.

A federal lawsuit filed Tuesday alleges that Meta knowingly created an addictive product and misled the public about dangers.

In addition to the states participating in the case, nine more attorney's generals are filing separate lawsuits, bringing the total number of states suing to 41, plus Washington D.C. "We allege that the company knowingly designed and deployed harmful features on its social media platforms to purposely addict children to its products. Features like infinite scroll and near-constant alerts," said Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown.

In a statement, Meta says it's disappointed that, instead of working with companies to create age-appropriate standards for apps used by teens, the attorneys general chose to sue.that I have read and agree
