Despite more than 50 objections, the Electoral Commission has upheld only that of the PAC’s candidate, Alton Mphethi
The Electoral Commission of SA has adjudicated objections it received against candidates on party lists ahead of the general elections, upholding only one.
Despite the IEC not removing ANC candidates, the party’s National Executive Committee has referred its lists to its integrity commission, which could see some people being forced to resign. The objection upheld was against the PAC’s candidate Alton Mphethi, a former party president, who was sentenced to 18 months in jail in June 2016. This disqualified him from holding any elected office in the National Assembly or provincial legislature.
