The release of the final election results may be delayed due to irregularities identified in the voting process.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa is conducting an audit of voting stations where individuals may have voted twice. This could culminate in a delay to the final announcement of the election results, scheduled to take place on Saturday.
But the bigger problem in the IEC is the loss of institutional knowledge in recent years where longstanding experienced staff have left. DA federal chairman James Selfe said the audit would help the IEC to determine how widespread the problem of duplicate voting really was.
